In other words, I want my initial exit to be close to my entry and clear. Close is my subjective definition of risk I will take and clear is defined by a technical line or indicator depending upon the play. Thanks for writing.
Bill KraftBill Kraft, MarketFN.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08274803638438137352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30128229.post-26730082763804652662008-02-17T11:33:00.000-07:002008-02-17T11:33:00.000-07:00Thanks, William. Of course, one can set the trailing stop in such a fashion at or about the same time an ordinary stop might be set, but it moves automatically with the direction the trader is looking for with the stock.
Bill KraftBill Kraft, MarketFN.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08274803638438137352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30128229.post-91113284715163702008-02-17T11:32:00.000-07:002008-02-17T11:32:00.000-07:00Actually, William, I entitled the piece "THINGS TH...Actually, William, I entitled the piece "THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT to Traders ... Picking a Stock". I am interested in showing elements that go into a plan to decide what stock I may decide to trade. As I say in the article, I find that my time is much better spent finding an exit that is close and clear (as it relates to entry) as opposed to spending my time finding stocks any other way.
Bill KraftBill Kraft, MarketFN.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08274803638438137352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30128229.post-84735621531794119022008-02-16T16:41:00.000-07:002008-02-16T16:41:00.000-07:00What I've found out is that a trader's time is bet...What I've found out is that a trader's time is better spent picking the method to pick stocks, not picking stocks. What methods have proven track records? What methods are performing well over the recent 1, 2, or 4 weeks? What methods can the trader regularly monitor so as to get actionable buy/sell indications?
The method must also include an exit strategy as your article points out. In my opinion, the entry and exit strategies are equally important parts of a comprehensive trading strategy.
Of course, you'll note that I posed more questions than I answered. It's much easier that way!

Bill M.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30128229.post-35976522470245660652008-02-16T07:59:00.000-07:002008-02-16T07:59:00.000-07:00Bill, the Feb.2nd article on Targets & Exits refer...Bill, the Feb.2nd article on Targets & Exits refers. A staffer at my brokerage prefers setting the stop loss in dollar amount vs auto-trailing the rising price at, say, 25%. the %-method automates it for the trader's convenience. The staffer said that the stop-out order gets filled more quickly, at or near the stop-loss price. This would be a good topic for a future column. -WilliamAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30128229.post-18834662994754585872008-02-16T07:27:00.000-07:002008-02-16T07:27:00.000-07:00Bill, you entitle and introduce a critical element...Bill, you entitle and introduce a critical element in trading: stock selection...but then the body of the article does not detail the "how to" at all. I am still left with gaining knowledge and strategy on this initial step in the trading process. -WilliamAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
